Where was I?

Book is in. House is a mess. Outside it appears to be Autumn-on-the-cusp-of-Winter. Have no idea how or when this happened, but it's all most upsetting. In the manner of a confused elderly person I shall turn up the heating and retreat back to the world of fiction, where there are no dinner money reminders or toothpaste-encrusted basins to clean.

(Am often struck by the irony of longing and longing for a book to be finished, counting down days/nights/words to The End. And then feeling totally desolate. Ho hum. Some people are never happy.)

Great to have you back!

So you're in old-lady mode - OK-guess what? I found a shop that sells Vesta ready meals. Yes, really! Will ship some up in your Christmas hamper to see you through the winter, dearie. Will be a smashing treat with the Croft Original.

Lots of love,

Old Aunt Rach.

Some good advice for the start of hibernating season:
Pick up Abby's 'In Christofide's Keeping' - I dare anyone not to enjoy such a fab book.
Or: Sarah Morgan's 'The Twelve Nights of Christmas' - Again the perfect book.
You know when you get that funny tingling sensation at the start of a book? I had that feeling with both of these book's and I was not disappointed.

Welcome to November!

I picked up the only remaining shelf copy of Emily's Innocence the other day. So that'll be on my TBR pile when I take to my rocking chair by the fireside.

Ovaltine? Anybody? Cocoa?

I'm much the same. Wish, wish, wish I had more time to do mummy things and feel utter guilt when writing takes me away from them, but the second I have nothing to work on, I'm craving the next piece of work.

Vesta ready meals, Auntie Rach? You mean the ones that taught us all what curry was (or a plastic approximation of it) circa 1977, with the bewildering addition of sort of fried crisp things on the side??! I must have some! My children have never experienced this gourmet delight! Oh, and I'm yearning for a drop of Croft Original now the weather's turned bitter too. Must wait to uncork it (pretending am doing so for benefit of father christmas) until December.

Hi Morton - love the photo! Am half back, but really not with it yet. Spent yesterday cleaning bathrooms and sleeping on sofa. Honestly, getting over deadlines like recovering from serious illness. Perhaps I'm in the wrong job!

(Hi Lacey!)

Abby and Karen - I do intend to get down to some serious reading, and have Cristophides right at the top of my teetering TBR pile! Really glad you enjoyed it, Karen - Abby (curse her) is on totally top form at the moment. I didn't think it would be possible to better In the Sheikh's Keeping this summer, but perhaps she's done it...?

Oooh, Ovaltine! Catherine, I feel a craving coming on. Used to drink it during night feeds with my youngest, so big nostalgia-fest there. Just the thing for winter reading.

Nicolette, it's mad isn't it? I was trying to think if there's a moment when I hit a happy balance, and I guess it would be when I'm about two thirds of the way through the book and it's going OK and I'm not in too much of a panic about finishing within a tight deadline. I think that's only happened once though. You see? Wrong job.

Glad you like the photo. Ellie Swoop and I had some proper studio photos done with Julie King http://www.juliekingphotography.co.uk/in anticipation of winning writing competitions or getting published!

Are you on Facebook, by the way, I can't find you.

I am doing Nanowrimo at the moment, so writing at least 1600 words a day. How ever do you do anyting else? Mx

Good idea with the photos. Bet you two had great fun doing that!

I'm not on facebook, having developed something of an antipathy to it thanks to the fact my daughter can't take the lid off a yogurt pot without documenting it, with photos, online. I'm on twitter though. Feels more manageable somehow.

Good luck with the NaNo - keep going and keep us posted! xx
