SUDDENLY

I love this word. I use it all the time.

Today I am trying to go suddenly cold-turkey.

But how will I ever reach my 2 000 word target without putting 5 suddenlys on a page??

You put the "suddenly"s in. Then when you've done your 2k words, you do a search and replace and take them out again... :o)

But that's just it Kate!

WHAT DO I REPLACE THEM WITH??

Nothing else is the same. Nothing works like a suddenly works. I don't want to play anymore...

(Clutches security blanket and hides under desk.)

Ummm... chocolate?

Don't you mean 'SUDDENLY clutches security blanket and hides under desk?' (what do you mean that I'm not being helpful???)

Take the chocolate!

Amanda, you're just taunting me now. Just because you're still allowed to use the lovely word, and I'm not. At all.

Kate and Eva-- do I replace the word 's******y' (see? I am trying) with the word 'chocolate'? Or do I eat lots and lots and lots of chocolate until my endorphin levels are so gloriously high I just don't care any more? (which will happen gradually... not su-- quickly at all.)

(Am still having trouble posting comments here. Even Blogger hates me...)

You know you were in Blogger hell the other day? For me, it's Bravenet. Snarl. Other people can see my old blog but I can't!

Joining you with security blanket :o(

YOu cut out the suddenly as your writing becomes tighter. Whenever you begin to type suddenly, you see it as a red flag that your writing could be up. Then suddenly, the prose will flow.

It can be done. But the thing to do is to allow the prose to flow. Now all I have to do is start to write my next one BEFORE suddenly I have to write upwards of 2k per day. It would help if I had a plot...

I like suddenly but not as much as I love just.

Kate, sorry to hear about your bravenet issues. It's horribly frustrating isn't it? I can't find any way of asking blogger why I'm having problems, and at the moment am only managing to post by going through dashboard rather than the blog itself. Anyway, your new page is lovely!

Michelle, I bet you have loads of plots brewing away in your head, but the problem is just narrowing them down! I'm taking on board what you say about flow, and sure enough did have a better day yesterday... fingers crossed it continues!

Nell, 'just' is a great word too! Very versatile. In fact, when I start to miss 'suddenly' too much, I might just try just...

(See! It's working already!)

One of my main repetitive words is "clearly". I try so hard not to use it! Clearly, I fail!!!!

Try not to worry while you are writing and distract yourself. Get the story down, then go through with "find & replace" and take them out, just as Kate H said.

Good luck with the wip.

Love,
Mags xx

Thanks Margaret-- isn't it funny how you can be going along quite happily without noticing these little habits, and then s*****ly you can't see anything else!!
