I think I may need to get out more...

...because surely it can’t be normal to get so ridiculously excited about having a new office chair? Completely on impulse (it’s what passes for wild recklessness when you’re 37) I dragged the rest of my protesting family to Ikea on Saturday afternoon and made them sit on every office chair in the entire store, testing the up and down zoom motion and the twirl-ability of them all.

We finally settled on this one...

...mainly because it's cream leather and I can imagine sitting at my desk wearing a plunging evening dress and diamonds, and spinning round in it saying, 'I’ve been expecting you Meester Bond.’

(Must remember to buy Ruby a diamond-studded collar to complete the picture.)

Am hoping that as well as being about a squillion times more comfortable than my old one and helping to keep the dreaded RSI at bay, it might also inspire me to stay sitting at my desk for more than 12 minutes at a time (last week's record). I have a book to write!

OOh, I've been looking for a new chair. And a new desk. (And a new computer come to that.) I'll have to check out Ikea. (You are VERY brave for going to Ikea on a Saturday!)

Dear India,
your new chair is very swish(although the chocolate crumbs may show!).
Did it come ready assembled? I made the mistake of not paying the spotty assistant in Staples a fiver to build mine. Let's just say it's a good job there's a man in the house with a bulging tool box. (fnaar fnaar)
Love,
Rach.

*mouth drops open in horror* Rachel, how could I have not thought about the chocolate crumbs? Oh knickers. Let's hope it's surface spongeable. It didn't come ready made, but as yesterday was mother's day I milked it for all it was worth and languished in bed drinking tea and refusing to get up until He had assembled it, with daughter #3 assisting. Easy peasy, though I wouldn't fancy my chances on any other day of the year!

Helen-- I was going to go to the local office supply shop, but thought a trip to Ikea would be more fun (in the same way that cross country running is fun, or climbing Everest...) The secret is to go late on in the afternoon and use Ikea's worryingly cheap meatballs and chips as a bribe for good behaviour-- thus saving you the bother of cooking tea when you get home! The only downside is that one way or another the outing ends up costing you £254 when you only went to buy a chair and some energy saving lightbulbs...

Lovely chair. And LOL about a diamond-studded collar for Ruby.

Hi India

Do you use a wrist rest for your mouse and keyboard that will help with the RSI

Actually Kate, I've changed my mind about the diamond-studded collar as I just remembered that the time the girls made me buy her a sequinned one from Monsoon she lost it within about 2 days. She can stick with her 49p pet shop one!

Carole, I did have to invest heavily in lots of gel-filled accessories for my computer last November and they have all helped. But the chair was the big thing-- my old one had lost 3 out of 4 of the screws that held the seat to the base, so was very wobbly to sit on and was about as comfortable as perching on a shooting stick on the side of a mountain. The new one is heaven!

Abby Green, you're banned for such outrageous rudeness. Leave immediately or I'll post the rest of the London photos... (you know, the ones with you, the four Greek guys and the chocolate fudge cake...?)
