Sometimes inspiration comes from the strangest sources

I’ve come to the conclusion that I'm a bit like a goldfish in some respects. Not in the ‘being able to swim really well and hold my breath underwater for long periods’ (like, maybe indefinitely) ones, but certainly in that I completely forget things I really like 15 seconds after they’ve finished. (Except Ikea’s Dime Bar cake. I sooo remember how much I like that.... Anyway, I’m digressing)

Take The Apprentice, for example. Not being a business-minded ball-breaking kind of a girl, it’s not something that automatically flashes up on my viewing radar, but a couple of weeks into every series I tend to find I’m hooked. This time it’s happened more quickly, but I suspect that my instant enslavement has more to do with the candidates themselves than with the programme’s intense focus on cut-throat business practise . Because, is it my imagination (or my hormones) but are a couple of the blokes surprisingly hot?? (You can largely ignore the front row here...)

It's surprising because, unlike The Palace, The Apprentice is a programme I collapse onto the marital sofa alongside my lovely husband to watch. It’s not supposed to be a full-blown fantasy-fest, and yet, I'm finding that I’m strangely inspired. On first glance you might think that super-suave, smooth-talker Raef was going to be the alpha male hero of the piece. Er, hell-o? I think not. Check out world-weary rough diamond Alex, or tall, chisel-cheekboned Lee standing at the back here....

The really great thing is it's on for another ten weeks! Yippee! Let's just hope that Alex stays in (and that one of the tasks involves a beach, surf shorts and oil...) and we'll all be happy!

*(I apologise for the shallow and un-politically correct content of this post. Naturally, here at IndiaGrey.com we would like to offer our best wishes to all the candidates, regardless of their gender or the excellence of their cheekbones....)

I watch from behind the sofa and through my fingers in horrified fascination! The first week's boardroom firing with the pillock who was fired and Raef both rapidly digging holes for themselves with their talk of class and princes and paupers - the face on Alan Sugar was classic! And yes, Lee and Alex have definite potential!

Mags

Oooh Mags-- LOVELY to see you! I totally agree about the Prince and Pauper moment; unbelievable! But what had to be even more horrific/fantastic was the stupid girl saying this week that she felt like she'd had to 'breastfeed' the other members of her team!! Alan's face then was just brilliant.

Blimey. You couldn't make it up, really.

Hope all is good with you! xxx

Do you watch the after show show on BBC2 immediately after the main programme? It's fab. Anyway, the presenter, Adrian Chiles, said on there when they were talking about the awful woman, Jenny, who should have been fired, "I'd have to be very thirsty indeed to want to be breastfed by Jenny"!!! I was so funny!

She was gruesome, wasn't she? Really out of order and it was a great injustice that Shazia was the one who was fired.

Can't wait for next week!

Love,
Mags

Yes-- it was so unfair that I began to suspect a little bit of TV manipulation. She's clearly going to be far too compelling (for all the wrong reasons!) to get rid of so soon.

Roll on Wednesday!

Dear India, The Apprentice is unmissable! I swear I must burn off a few hundred calories with extreme cringeing every week. That Jenny woman was unbelievably awful wasn't she?. It's Lee for me on the slobber front, stature, cheekbones and generally very good blokeishness. But Raef is utterly compelling-the HAIR! We need some serious analysis into how he gets that strange bouffant effect on top-someone has got to muss it up soon! Mags is right about the 'post mortem' afterwards, there was a clip of Sir Alan reading out a bit from Raef's CV. It said something along the lines of 'have faced death on several occasions'. Howls of laughter here. Can't wait for Wednesday either!!!
Love,
Rach.

I suspect bald-patch insecurity on the hair front, don't you? I bet we won't see Raef running down the stairs to take one of Suralan's early morning phone-calls... Not without twenty minutes in front of the mirror with a comb and some Elnett anyway.

'Have faced death on many occasions... Am reckless and impatient, and the kind of guy who doesn't wait for the green man at pedestrian crossings...'

(subsides under desk in convulsions of mirth)

India your blog is dangerous! Now I have this overwhelming desire to watch 'The Apprentice' and I was doing so well!

I suppose I can claim it's research.

Don't fight it, Natasha. In fact, throw in a bottle of wine and a packet of Pringles and embrace that research opportunity wholeheartedly!

And Ikea's Dime Bar cake???? See I'd managed to escape that temptation entirely and now the possibility of it is lodged in my brain. Just bad.
